I enjoy Harry Collingwood's fiction and style of story telling. This is a very nice adventure story that takes place around the 1900's. The story is about Harry, a young apprentice in an English engineering company who is offered a project to help survey a new railroad line through the wilderness in Peru. His boss on this trip abroad is an older self-centered man, a real tyrant and almost impossible to work for. Young Harry survives and overcomes one obstacle after another. Throw into the story some local bandits and you have a real adventure with a plot that twists and turns. Along the way Harry is discovered by some native indians that believe he is the re-incarnation of a legendary Inca God. He is kidnapped and taken to their hidden city.
This book was difficult to put down. Written in 1910, but language and terminology is not a problem. Since there were no PG or R ratings when this book was written, it can be enjoyed by both adults and younger readers.
